Future City

Future City is a joint exhibition project by the Association and 12 sponsors and organisations, transcending the boundaries of organisations, companies and industries and utilising their respective knowledge and technological capabilities under the theme ”To the city of happiness.”, where the future cities of Society 5.0 = economic development and solutions to social issues are compatible. One of the draws is the “15 future experience attractions”, which are co-created by the Association and the 12 sponsors. It is a pavilion that combines both learning and fun.

What will be exhibited?

The pavilion will consist of a common exhibit led by the exposition association and individual exhibits led by the 12 sponsors.

"Future Life Cube – Dialogue with the Future"

 This exhibition expresses the world and scenery of ”Society 5.0 and the Future City” from the perspective of our ordinary lives. Visitors will have an opportunity to begin to think together about the Future City through ”dialogue” with the residents of the Future City, which enables them to feel and consider the various happinesses of all sizes created within daily life. Four “3D Cubes” are lined up, each offering a unique experience where a 3D space suddenly becomes visible as you walk, each with its own story to tell.

"City Walker – I saw a dream, I saw the present"

Ride the heads of special robots as they stroll around the Future City. Become huge one moment, tiny the next, fly high, or go deep underground. Come on, let's all have a virtual experience of life/industry in the city of the future.

Environment and Energy

Creating new blessings of energy by creating various “cycles”. An evolving approach to a sustainable earth.

Visitors can experience the future world of the environment and energy with 3DCG created by UEHARA Katsura, who directed the PR video for the Tokyo Olympics bid. In this world, nothing goes to waste. A treasure hunter (Lisa) will guide you through a recycling-oriented energy society.

Transportation and Mobility

In scenes featuring mobility, the transportation of people and goods does not only involve simple movement but will also create new values, such as contributing to the environment, that overlap with each other.

Visitors can experience the world of transport and mobility of the future through 2D motion graphics created by YASUNAGA Yuko, who creates humorous and cute views of the world using stop-motion photography and motion graphics. While touring an imaginary expo featuring fascinating vehicles from the world of the future, the exhibition introduces eco-friendly dream vehicles and more.

Manufacturing and Urban Development

Addressing social challenges through wisdom, such as CO₂ reduction, resource recycling and disaster countermeasures, and achieving coexistence with nature.

Visitors can experience the world of manufacturing and urban development of the future through INABA Hideki’s animation, who is known for his collaborative video works with numerous international artists. In this adventure story, boys use their imaginations to create a utopia of the future, and utilise their special skills to design and build an environmentally friendly city.

Food and Agriculture

Connecting producers, sellers and consumers through a food value chain that protects and distributes the source of life.

Visitors can experience the world of food and agriculture of the future through a puppet show created by SHIMIZU Takaharu, who is involved in music videos for artists, TV commercials for major companies and stage productions. “Itadakimasu Restaurant” is a musical that features unique characters who sing and dance as a single team that integrates everything from production to consumption as one, with safe and stable production, accurate transport of ingredients, personalised cooking, and harmony between people and technology.
